HEAL (Health Educate and Leadership) offers a rare chance for the four major healthcare providers in our area to work collaboratively for such a worthy cause. The professionals who take time out of their busy schedules to visit the classroom are given the gift of reconnecting to what inspired them to choose a career in healthcare.
Carolyn Sanders, RN has been organizing the monthly visits to Mrs. Crichlow’s 7th Grade class. The students learned first-hand where germs are…everywhere by swabbing areas of their classroom and watching the bacteria grow. Dr. Otashe Golden of Dameron Hospital purchased the American Heart CPR Anywhere Mannequin & DVD training units for every student to learn CPR and then take their unit home to share their newfound skill with their family. This is the added bonus of this outreach, the student taking home vital health information.
The SJ Office of Education, Hamilton teachers and Dr. Singh are to be commended for their vision.
Dameron Hospital and Hamilton Elementary 8th Grade class hosted a health and wellness fair Thursday, October 15th. The event attracted over 700 men, women and children. The seasonal flu mist vaccine was offered to the parents of students in the school who have already received the vaccine. Carolyn Sanders, RN has been organizing monthly visits to Dr. Kimberly Pedro's 8th grade class as part of the Health, Educate and Leadership project. HEAL offers a rare chance for the four major healthcare providers in our area to work collaboratively to promote wellness and inspire interest in health care careers.
The eight-graders created display boards on health related topics such as smoking cessation, nutrition, and hand washing. The students conducted blood pressure screenings, assisted in translation, and shared their knowledge of health related issues to the attendees. Dameron Hospital staff volunteered their time to offer glucose testing, nutrition information by Registered Dietian Dawn Siberts and the flu-mist vaccine administered by Christine Moles, RN. Dr. Gurmel Singh, Principal stated, "This was a very successful evening for our neighborhood and school. Dameron's staff did an outstanding job and I am especially proud of our Hamilton 8th grade class."

Employees of Dameron Hospital join together to support the March of Dimes for babies and the American Heart Association Heart Walk. We care about the health of our community and are pleased to show support for organizations focused on health.
