It is the philosophy and objective of the Surgery Department to render quality patient care. The department provides a facility that is well-equipped and immediately available to meet the needs of the surgical patient. The following specialties are emphasized:

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
Prior to your scheduled surgery, you will be given an appointment with our pre-admission testing team. This pre-admission testing (PAT) appointment will be scheduled by your surgeon’s office, usually after your surgeon’s pre-operative appointment.
During this visit, a registered nurse will review your health history, your medications, your applicable allergies and discuss any issues that might impact anesthesia. You may require further testing in preparation for your surgery, such as an ECG, chest x-ray, and/or additional lab work. All testing will be coordinated at your PAT appointment. Please wear comfortable clothing, i.e. a shirt that buttons in the front. You may eat and drink normally prior to this appointment unless instructed otherwise.
This appointment will take approximately two hours.
Please bring the following with you to your appointment:
- All paperwork provided to you by your surgeon for this surgery.
- An up to date list of your medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, with dosage information.
- A list of any allergies you have.
- A list of any previous surgeries.
- The names and telephone numbers of your primary care physician and any specialists you are seeing such as your cardiologist, etc.
- A copy of Health Care Proxy or Living Will, if applicable.
- Insurance cards and a photo ID.
Our registered nurse will discuss pre-surgery instructions including medications. Written instructions will be provided for further review following the appointment. If you have any health changes between your last visit to your surgeon and the day of surgery; including a fever, sore throat, cough, cold, or think that you may be pregnant—notify your surgeon. We welcome any questions that you may have.

Outpatient Surgery
The Outpatient Short Stay Surgery Center is located in the Dameron Hospital Annex Building. Patients may reduce the cost of surgery by eliminating overnight hospitalization without sacrificing quality medical care. The Alex and Faye Spanos Surgical Pavilion features state-of-the-art medical equipment and staff that are highly trained in outpatient surgical care.
Physician Surgicalists
In an effort to provide high-quality emergency and urgent surgical care to our community, Dameron Hospital offers a dedicated surgicalist group on-site for emergency general surgery.
With advanced training in general surgery, Dameron's surgicalists are ready to help patients whenever the need arises.
A surgicalist is a surgeon who specializes in surgical care in the hospital setting. Surgicalists offer immediate care in the Emergency Department or in the hospital's inpatient setting. They are on-call for all general surgery care and benefit Dameron's patients in many ways. They offer:
- Reduced wait times and around-the-clock availability.
- Improved quality of care with focused attention on the most urgent
surgeries as they arise. - Streamlined services with quick accessibility to patients.
- Shorter hospital stays and a faster return to normal activity.
In addition to being available for emergency and inpatient cases, surgicalists may see patients with surgical needs. Most surgicalist referrals come from primary care physicians, but they also accept some patients with diseases in which the patient needs surgical assistance. Such diseases include:
- Breast lumps
- Thyroid and parathyroid disease
- Gallbladder disease
- Vascular disease
- Pancreas problems
- Colon problems
